Sometimes employers can be baffled with the fact of hiring a worker with a j1 visa. This should not be so, it is not nearly as intimidating as it might sound. Many foreign workers turn out to be a great asset and are indispensable especially in seasonal industries such as tourism, fishing and recreational activities. Most of the workers come here for the summer season, sometimes as early as beginning of May and stay till late September. The fact of their early arrival and late departure makes them more convenient for business, as other seasonal workers such as college students leave for school, while the business still needs hands. Among other benefits is their eagerness to work, exposure to a different culture and the employer’s savings on taxes. The foreign workers do not have to pay Medicare, Social security or unemployment taxes, thus saving their employer from these taxes as well.
