Indoor Furniture Styles for the Future
Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
Indoor furniture has certainly come a long way in the last few years. There are plenty of ranges around that will look good now and moving into the future. The modern styles that are available are usually very robust and will last a long time, so it’s important that indoor furniture doesn’t start to look outdated as time passes. We first started to look for indoor furniture massachusetts and found some great showrooms with a lot of different options on display. It was easy to imagine the different styles in our own property. Many of the ranges have a wicker or rattan look often with contemporary seating covers to produce a very stylish set of furniture. We found out the combinations went beyond just two or three seating pieces, with many styles offering L-shaped options and multiple seats. Of course these are not the most economical styles of indoor furniture.

Scissor traps that consist of jaws similar to scissors are the most useful mole traps which can be utilized in any kinds of soil. When using a scissor trap to capture the moles, it is very important to set it up in the right place carefully. Harpoon traps are helpful for catching the moles in clay soil. Choker loop traps can be set up in any kinds of soil easily. These traps are set up in the interior portion of the tunnel. Have a Beautiful Garden Pond in a Few Easy Steps
Thursday, December 1st, 2011
A stunning garden pond can stimulate your senses while at the same time providing an oasis of tranquillity and peace, making you forget about the world outside. If your garden pond design was well thought out, your garden can become a haven for wildlife as a pond is its own little eco-system and attracts all things wild. Designing and building your own garden pond is easier than you may think. You can install an attractive pond even if you have little space in your garden. Ponds don’t have to be large to create an impact. It can be challenging to create a landscape surrounding your pond which seamlessly blends in, but if thought about carefully, it can be done and is worth taking your time over. Research garden pond designs on the Internet or in books and magazines first to give you an idea of the many different design types there are out there. Once you have fond the ideal garden pond design you need to plan its location in your back garden very carefully. You will want to view your pond from the house in order to look at it in bad weather and when you can’t get outside. This is helpful in treating problems quickly, when you are able to see your pond all year round. Place it away from underground cables or pipes and make sure there are no trees near your preferred location as falling leaves can upset your water chemistry. Ponds do well in areas where there is both sun and shade during the day. Now you have your location and plan it is time to dig your hole. Lay out stakes and a rope in order to mark your pond’s perimeter and dig inside the boundary. Remove any large rocks or stones that could affect the depth. Lay out your pond liner on the floor. These can be bought at your local pond suppliers or at your local garden centre. Lay your liner out completely flat and then you can start to fill your pond with water. Once full, add your pond pump and let the pond settle for a few days before you add any plants or fish. Once it has settled over the course of a few days the chlorine content will have diminished enough for fish to be added. Subsequent water changes will have to be treated though, with dechlorinators to prevent chlorine from getting in the fishes’ gills.

Keep the Elements out with Metal Sheds
Friday, September 2nd, 2011
When you own a house, you have an obligation to your community to maintain your garden’s looks, but many older houses do not come with ample storage space for the mowers, cutters, trimmers, edgers, and blowers that make such maintenance possible. Leaving your tools outside is also not an option; the wind, rain, sun, and snow will damage them over time, leading to costly replacements. Building your own shed is difficult, time-consuming, and expensive. Fortunately, there is a simple solution: metal sheds. These sheds coated with weather-resistant materials are available at an affordable price. The variety of designs matches with a wide range of housing styles, and their strong metal bases ensure that wind and rain will not knock them out of place. They come in many sizes, too, so you can find one that fits both your yard and your collection of maintenance implements. Sheds like this are a simple solution to any storage problem.

Creating Your Own Pond
Friday, August 12th, 2011
Ponds are a great way to decorate your yard or garden. If you own any acreage out in the country a pond can be a great way to store up water for crops or to feed livestock. If your property does not have a naturally occurring pond you can build one with a little work. There is a little more to it than just digging a hole and waiting for it to fill up with rain water. There are DIY pond kits available that contain the parts you need. First and foremost, you will need a pond liner. These are sheets or plastic or some other waterproof membrane that keeps the water from seeping into the ground. This need to line the bottom of your dug out hole. Next you will need to add some drainage system in case your pond becomes overly full. You don’t want water draining into your house for example. Pump stations are necessary too to keep the water from getting stagnant.

Thinking of Growing Your Own Food Indoors
Sunday, July 17th, 2011
An indoor garden is usually understood as a vast matrix of plants in a warehouse sized greenhouse. People do not usually think of growing their own food indoors at their own home. But this is a very real, and actually quite popular to grow your own food if you lack the yard space, or simply do not have access to a yard in the first place. What you need is an led grow light, pots, soil and plant food, and a watering method. Now, I say watering method because some people go the extra mile, and dollar, and put together a little hydroponic watering system. This can be a very handy, and expensive, method to watering your indoor garden. I tend to go with just watering them manually with a watering can because it accomplishes the same goal, and will save you money as well. But, to each their own.
My Secret Dinosaur Garden in Suburbia
Saturday, July 16th, 2011
My house is placed on its plot of land in a very awkward way – the back garden is of a decent size – enough to house even up to three event tents (yes, I measure my garden in a novel way!), but there is a strip of land approximately one metre wide and five metres long that exists beside the house as a sealed dead end. Until my daughter’s third birthday, this area was used only as a dumping ground for dead container plants, grass clippings and bags of compost. We fondly called it the ‘nature area’ although the only nature was next door’s cat. Then my daughter got hooked on dinosaurs. All that she wanted was to have a dinosaur of her own – she repeatedly asked if we could perhaps keep one in the garden. We explained that they are extinct, but then we had an idea. Over the next month we secretly converted the ‘nature area’ into a dinosaur habitat with a gravel path running between pots of ferns and horsetails. A friend came over and painted the fence with a mural of a fern forest with dinosaurs grazing in the distance. On her birthday we took her out and got her to explore the area until she finally uncovered her own ‘pet dinosaur’ toy nestled in the undergrowth. She will be 17 years old next birthday, but she still insists that we maintain the ‘dinosaur garden’ in her honour.

We Have Too Much Trash
Monday, June 20th, 2011
My entire house is filled with trash right now, because all of the members of my family refuse to pick up anything. When they eat something, they usually just leave the empty plate sitting on the floor in the living room. After they are done using a paper towel, they just throw it on the floor as well. I am getting really tired of having to clean up after all my kids, so I have decided that I am going to start making them throw things away. I just went out and bought a regular trash bin and a couple of recycling bins. I am going to teach my kids and my husband what they should put in the different bins. I just hope that they will listen to me when I tell them to throw things away, because I know that I am going to be very angry if they decide not to follow my orders.

Japanese Knotweed is Really Tenacious!
Tuesday, May 24th, 2011
I have a friend in Britain who really is into gardening. He laughs at my attempts, especially since everything I plant dies. But anyway, one of the banes of his existence is apparently a really hardy weed called Japanese knotweed. The plant looks familiar to me, especially the fact that it pushes its way up through concrete and stuff, only I don’t think we have it in this area. We must have a similar weed, though, or maybe it’s an import. Anyway, he’s had to call in professionals because he was not able to get rid of the weed on his own without harming the rest of the garden. He’s happy now, though, because the stuff is gone and his garden, walkways and driveways (though he calls a driveway something else, I forget what) are protected. He should have just called me — I’m pretty sure that even weeds bow down before my gardening incompetence.

The Problems with Having Yucca in the Garden
Saturday, April 23rd, 2011
Although not everyones most popular plant due to safety issues, one of my all-time favorite parts of my garden is where I keep my yucca plants. These attractive plants come from America and tend to bloom with big white flowers. However it is not the flowers of Yucca’s that attract me but the beauty of their foliage. I think they look stunning as the backdrop to my pond.
It is just a shame that I cannot let the kids play down there due to them being sharp, it id not that big a deal though as I don’t really want them playing near the water if I am not in the area to keep an eye on things, so I fenced the whole area off a few years ago. We do go down their pretty option but they know that they are not allowed near the Yucca and pond area if no adult is around.

The Pleasure of Wind Chimes
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011
Many home owners – especially those who happen to have gardens – underestimate the degree to which a good set of wind chimes can really enhance their landscape. All chimes do this in essentially two ways. First, they have an appealing auditory quality. But second – and this is the detail that escapes most people’s attention – they can also be pleasant to look at.
When buying chimes, don’t focus on appearance, however. If they don’t sound right, then you’re not going to be happy with them. If you want a warm and full sound, check out some bamboo chimes. If you want something that is more complex, then you can check out sets that literally play an entire scale.
But once you have the right sound, don’t hesitate to think about how the chimes look. Are they large and gawky? Slender and elegant? This question can’t be resolved without thinking about where they are going. If they are hanging off a distant tree, that’s a different aesthetic issue than if they are going to be right on the front porch.
Take your time when buying a set of wind chimes. Listen to the sound and once you’re pleased with that, take a step back and ask how they’re going to look in your yard or garden.

Diseases Affecting the Autumn Blaze Maple
Saturday, November 20th, 2010
Many homeowners and landscape artists had accepted a hybrid variety of the maple tree since its introduction in 1982. This maple tree variety is known as the autumn blaze maple. This maple has improved features that enable it to resist pollution, pests and diseases. However, just like the regular maple tree, autumn blaze can still be infected by plant diseases. Three of these plant diseases are anthracnose, verticillium wilt and root rot. Out of these diseases anthracnose is the most defined. This disease which is brought by drought and high winds, results to dry leaves and tree defoliation. According to the University of Rhode Island Horticulture Department, spring weather which is wet and cool encourages the spread of this disease through spores. The next two diseases verticillium wilt and root rot causes branches to die abruptly. However, since autumn blaze is a hybrid, it is more susceptible to severe damage from root rot. The prevalence of these diseases should alert tree growers to adapt preventive measures to protect their maple trees.

Learn to Recognize the Signs of Termites
Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Termites cause billions of dollars of damage each year to houses and furniture, and also to tree plantations and crops. The underlying reason is because termite eat wood as their principal diet and this has created many problems for man. Despite so much publicity on their activities, many houses continue to fall prey to the ravages of termites.
The houses that face the highest risk are those located near to wooded or forested areas, as these places have a lot of termites. So these homeowners should be vigilant and watch out for the signs of termites often. Some of the most common indicators of termites are termite tubes and calloused wood that can puncture easily.
One important thing to note is that these signs of termites only appear when the infestation is at a serious stage already. This means the colony would already be fairly large and spread across many sites in your home, chewing on your wood.
So, stopping the termites at the earliest possible stage is essential if you want to prevent serious damage to your home. Learn to recognize the common termite signs before it’s too late.

Cedar Garden Shed
Friday, July 30th, 2010
Have you ever tried building a garden shed made out of wood? Cedar wood is one of the most famous varieties for a garden shed material. It is a perfect type of material to build a structure for storing things. The benefit of a wooden shed is its durability and it can blend in to the surroundings of the garden. Also, cedar wood does not rot easily because of the treatment made to the wood beforehand. Cedar doesn’t deform in any way from weather conditions like temperature and humidity. Other wood types deforms over time as it is exposed to moisture.
A cedar garden shed can also blend on the environment’s temperature. It is not like metal sheds that heats up when the sun is up. You can even sleep comfortably in a wooden garden shed, it is not just a shed for storing things but it can also be an extra place to stay.
